at lunch today I was asked what I do for fun.  after some time thinking about something other than fire I was left speachless. I realized I don’t really do anything.  man that’s lame.

Than they asked what I do when I hang out with my friends.  Well most of my friends are married, so we sit around and watch the tv. I realized I’m to a point where Death, Marriage, and school are taking my frineds by storm.

So that being the case I realized I probably should either join them or run from all three all together.

. . .

. . .

I’m putting my running shoes on right now.

being sick and yet having some fun

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008 | Just Me | 1 Comment

Well This weekend started off all wrong but ended good, in an odd sort of way.

See I was all excited to head out to a cabin with my cousins.  one thing failed after another and we wound up just spending the night on the provo springville border at Zach’s place.  Now you might thing this was a turn for the worst but it really was a lot of fun.

We stayed up late (about midnight.  I know, we’re kind of lame) watching “It’s always sunny in Phili” and a new show that zach introduced to me, “The big Band theroy.”

Well on friday I started to get a little sick and as the weekend went on, the sickness got worse and worse.  Firday night I was talking like a 14 year old boy again.  voice cracking and not being able to sing were the two major signs that I was loosing my voice.

Well monday rolled around, and I was coughing up a storm.  I didn’t go to work due to my illness, however this was the perfect time to catch up on some “Big Band Theory” episodes.  I have officially watched every episode ever broadcasted.

mind you, this is a show for nerds.  the terms they use are accurate, the complaints that most of them have with real life, are valid, and yet I find myself relating to them.

on a side note, I switched over to AT&T and got a real iPhone.  holy crap, the GPS and 3G connection make this thing more than just a phone.  My mom even Oooed and Awed over the fact that I can now drive and blog at the same time.  (no I have not actually nor do I ever plan on doing that),

Not Digital, Not Yet

Monday, September 15th, 2008 | Uncategorized | 5 Comments

On Saturday, Hayley and I saw the movie Get Smart.  I’m aware it’s been out for a while, but see I grew up on get smart, and watching the comercials, Steve Correl is no Max Smart.  so I saw it and tried to keep an open mind.

well I’ve got one word of advice for Hollywood, Don’t go Digital!

Get smart was filmed on a glorified sitcom high def camera and frankly, it looked it.

2 major problems I see, they shot it in 30 fps it looked like and than tried to down convert to 24 to try to keep high res frams, however, it looks cheesy!  especially the darks.

I’m not saying Digital isn’t inevitable, because I know, the whole world is going that way, it’s cheeper, easier, and in many cases harder to screw up.  but that’s just it, it’s easier to make movies now than ever before.  Being so easy we have absolute crap coming out of hollywood.  The good movies seem to come from Indy film makers (good for you).

So why am I ranting about digital (becaue is keep touching this issue than taking tangets)?  because digital is what us low end people use, becasue we can’t afford 32mm film, let alone the camera, we can’t afford to even develop said film.  However you can!  keep doing it.  Digital isn’t ready for the big screen, it still looks bad.

Unless this is a sign that hollywood uses digital on films that they just don’t care about, than by all means just let us know, we’ll avoid them!

It’s just frustrating to pay for a movie ticket and than get made for TV quality movies.

Please up the annie on this one please!

It’s a rare joy to play infront of a crowd.  There’s this excitment that comes with a crowd cheering for you as you play to your little hearts content.

Wed, Hayley Haws through a concert for her guitar students for a singles ward activity.  all in all, it was awesome and fun.

here are some pics.

Warranty?

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 | Rants | No Comments

So I had some car issues.  a few things had broken or come loose.  so I did what a good client should do and I called a head of time to set an appointment for me to drop off my car.

so 9 am rolls around and It’s time for me to drop off my car.  I informed the dealership that i had class that night and needed it back.  He re-assured me that the car would be done in the early afternoon.

Also, all the problems were covered under my warranty except an oil change.

well 3 rolls around and I decided to call up and ask how far along my car is.  the man on the other side tells me they haven’t even looked at it yet.  I reminded him that the appointment was at 9 am.  he said they were busy.  mind you there were 2 other cars there besides mine.  and mine was supposed to be the first one in.

I show up at 4:30 and wind up having to wait till 6:30 till they’re done.  also, they decided some of my repairs were not covered under the warranty.

this was the tire well.  they said that if it breaks loose they’ll cover it but if it grinds against my tire they won’t any more.

wow, so $200 dollars later I leave the dealership only to find the tire well was not put on properly.  it’s missing screws and was folded, yes folded, at the base of the front.

a phone call to them this morning reveled that i can set an appointment to bring it in some other time.

Well I’ve wanted to throw a themed party for a while now.  the only catch was that majority of my parties which are planned for 30-40 people wind up being; Adam, Jamie, and me watching a movie in my front yard.

So first things first, I decided to give people more notice.  No, not eveyone came, infact I think a little under half showed up, but we had blast.

RULES OF SUPERHERO TACO NIGHT.

Everyone had to dress up, EVERYONE!

and we ate tacos.  basically that’s it.

se habla English?

Now just so everyone knows,  I’m very much in favor of allowing imigrants from different countries into the U.S.  I think we’re a very blessed country and we should share our blessings with others.

However I have 2 requirments.

1: no laws are broken in your passage from there to here.

2: You need to learn English.

2.5 if you’re currently learning english don’t work in a place where I would have to trust you with my financial transactions.

I recently (about 5 min ago) had an experience that was frustrating and annoying.  I went to pay my school fees and found an asian woman behind the counter.

“hi I’d like to pay my school fees.”

“you pay your what?”

(mind you this is her only job is to take school fees)

“I need to pay for my classes!”

“oh ok.  what student number?”

“I have my ssn.”

“ok,  you tell me ssn”

(I did)

“ok you pay all?”

“no I’m set up for the payment plan.”

“ok you pay half now.”

“no I should only have to pay 1/4 of my payment.”

“yes yes, you pay half now.”

“no I’m already set up, it should only be this much.”

“yes yes, you pay half now.”

“is there someone else I could talk to?”

“I talk you.  you pay half now?”

“um, no, um,  what days do you work here?”

“I work wed, thru, firday.”

“so you don’t work here tuesday?”

“no, no, you pay half now?”

“no thank you.  I’ll be back tuesday.”

Satelite phones are wierd!

Friday, August 29th, 2008 | Uncategorized | 1 Comment

So work asked me to make sure their satelite phone worked. The thing is bulky and in reliable! It seems like just another way to make it harder to escape society.
I stood outside for ten min pointing the oversized antena at the skies and had no service. Ha ha ha. Aparently we have our hand in all sorts of technologizes.
However I just learned that the company that provides our service has satelite issues. So we’re going to cancel.

Back to school mess ups

Thursday, August 21st, 2008 | Rants | 2 Comments

School is important, I know, I get told that all the time.  And yes I do understand that it is important.  However, ever since I returned home from my mission I have had nothing but bad luck getting into school.

1st try, provo colledge.  I was accepted, but they didn’t have courses I wanted to take, and infact tried to talk me into taking classes I had no desire to take.  later I learned they were short in those classes.  man those guys were pushy.

2nd try, BYU.  first off, BYU’s website is a joke.  I recently went back and found the only way to actually get around their site is by going through their crappy HTML and javascript encrusted site.  than the acceptance letter.  oh wow, they got it too me too late for me to sign up for any of their classes.  the people who tried to “help” were stuck up snobs.  frankly, I’m glad I didn’t go there.

3rd, SLCC.  they ran into a small problem that BYU ran into as well.  for some reason the state of Utah had me down as a non U.S. citizen and there for my semester of 3 classes was going to cost me about $4000 dollars.  hmm, doesn’t seem fair.

4th try.  Again SLCC, and again, non-U.S. citizen.  however, after my birth certificate and valid drivers license wasn’t enough, a letter from my mission presidet seemed to do the trick.  still I had to drop a class because they couldn’t offer it to a non-U.S. citizen.

well now I”m on my 5th try.  again SLCC.  the people at SLCC are super friendly (a lot more than I can say about the people at BYU)  however, this time I ran into some issues as well.  I had signed up for a math and english class along with a web page design class.

my english teacher resigned and the class was dropped due to lack of teacher.  my math class was given to a non-U.S. citizen version of me which I later recieved an e-mail for apologizing that they had messed up and they were sorry but the class is now full.

for being institutions of education, there are not a lot of smart people running schools these days.  I guess the nice thing is my fees will be next to nothing this year, but now I have another semester to take on later.  goo!
